The Business Card Makeover

Posted on May 7, 2014 in Business Card

Paper business cards has been around for more than 100 years. Modern cards are more creative and expressive than their ancestors, but they remained basically unchanged. So what’s wrong with it?

Joanna Stern of the Wall Street Journal posted this video article earlier this year where she concluded that the time is right to rethink the business card, but most efforts to replace paper cards with a digital equivalent came up short.

Most business people agree that:

  • They often get asked for their business card and don’t have any on hand
  • Many business cards don’t make it back to the office after a business trip
  • Few have a system to store an organize business cards
  • Even fewer take the time to enter or scan it into a system

Conclusion: A business card is an essential component of the exchange ritual prior to starting a meeting, but it’s value beyond that is limited.

We created contactcard.me to fix the pain of dealing with business cards after the exchange ritual, without replacing the trusty old paper business card.

Our propose solution achieve this in 3 simple steps:

  1. Create a digital business card on http://contactcard.me
  2. Order our innovative NFC/QR stickers
  3. Apply the sticker to the back of your existing paper business card

How does this solve the problem?

  • Always keep one business card in your wallet and give it out electronically by tapping or scanning this card
  • Store digital business cards you receive from others in your Digital Drawer and always have it with you
  • Download the content of a digital business card to your local contact management system as a VCARD
  • Email or Text your business card to your contacts. Even include them in your email signature as a simple URL

This Kickstarter Project provides an overview of the solution. We really appreciate your support for this project!
